Competitive Landscape

Provenance is crowded. Occasion remains the question to prove.

This page maps which positioning territories the competitor set reviewed actually occupies, measured by evidence density in the evidence. It does not estimate market share, because no share data exists here — and inventing one would be the single most damaging thing this portal could do.

20 competitor findings14 brands with evidence9 catalogue snapshots

Territory occupancy by brand

Provenance and health are occupied across the reviewed set. Occasion-building may differentiate, but sparse cells remain evidence gaps until further research proves otherwise.

Unit: how much evidence we hold, by territory — not market shareGeography: Spain & ItalyPeriod: As at August 2026

Method · Each cell counts how much evidence we hold on a brand in a territory. It maps what we know, not the market itself — a brand may be active in a territory and score low here simply because we have not researched it yet.

Derived from live CONSERVAS observations. Row-level provenance is in the Evidence Library.

What this means

Read the empty cells, not the full ones. A crowded territory tells you where the argument is already being had; an empty one tells you either that nobody is there, or that we have not looked yet. Both matter — but only one is an opportunity, and telling them apart needs more research, not more analysis of what we have.

Catalogue

Range and promotional intensity, where captured

Product count and promotion depth by brand

Promotional intensity varies far more than catalogue size. Range is a weak differentiator in this set; pricing behaviour is a strong one.

Unit: count of products / products on promotionGeography: Spain & ItalyPeriod: Reviewed 2026-07-31 – 2026-08-01

Method · One row per brand catalogue snapshot from the most recent capture cycle. Counts come from the brand's own storefront feed. Absence of a brand means no readable storefront, not an empty range.

Derived from live CONSERVAS observations. Row-level provenance is in the Evidence Library.

Conservas Albo positions on 25 export markets, easy-open-lid pioneering and 100+ prepared-dish references — evidence of diversification away from a core tinned-seafood shelf squeezed by private label below and provenance premium above.

Why this confidence: Company copy verified; the strategic interpretation is analyst inference.

Calvo's Ensalada Foodie range pairs tuna with chickpeas, quinoa and vegetables, sold on fibre, protein and energy for "quienes desean una alimentación saludable y equilibrada" and framed around a time-poor consumer — "para ti que no paras".

Why this confidence: Verbatim product copy. Combines the health and convenience territories in one proposition.

Calvo markets a +PRO line positioned explicitly on high protein content for people who play sport and want "alimentación saludable y funcional" — no preservatives or additives, low fat. The brand describes it as one of its most recent launches.

Two owners hold leading positions on both sides of the Spain-Italy corridor: Nauterra owns Calvo (ES) and Nostromo (IT #2 tuna brand); Bolton owns Isabel (ES) and Rio Mare (IT leader, ~38% share). Spain and Italy are one competitive system, not two.

Why this confidence: Ownership confirmed on corporate sites of both groups.

The health, protein and functional-nutrition territory is occupied in BOTH Spain and Italy by the largest players, not open. Spain: Calvo +PRO (sport/protein) and Ensalada Foodie (health + convenience). Italy: Delicius Longevity Nutrition Program with INRC, Mareblu ActivePRO, Mareblu Plant Power. Five first-party recorded across three companies and two markets.

Why this confidence: Established from five independent readings of the companiesّ own pages on 2026-08-02, clearing the three-source threshold for a structural pattern. Supersedes the Italy-only finding and retires the earlier reading that health was open ground.

Conservas Olasagasti S.L. is the absorbing company in a joint cross-border merger with Olasagasti Gia Salvatore Orlando e C. S.r.l. (Italy). Statutory notices published on the company site include the employment-impact report, shareholder meeting call and Art. 89 RDLME notice.

Why this confidence: Company statutory notices evidence the filing; completion, consideration and resulting structure are NOT established.

Conservas Serrats operates a 1,000+ recipe library and a resident nutritionist (Arantza López Ocaña) covering seasonal produce and healthy habits — the only Spanish premium conservas player building an owned-audience asset rather than a catalogue.

Serrats' 0.0% promotion rate is a measurement blind spot, not a commercial fact: its product data does not expose a comparison price, so discounts are invisible to us rather than absent. Any competitive promotion comparison that includes Serrats at zero is wrong.

Why this confidence: High confidence that the blind spot exists; no confidence at all in the 0.0% figure.

Asdomar positions on "QUALITÀ 100% MADE IN", presenting its choice to process tuna in Sardinia and mackerel in Portugal as a deliberately counter-current decision that preserves artisanal selection skill.

Callipo anniversary figures conflict: evidence records ">EUR 100m for the first time in 112 years" (2024) while the company site states "sono passati 110 anni" against a 1913 founding (implying 111 in 2024). Logged rather than reconciled.

Method · No market share is calculated anywhere on this page. The evidence contains production and export volumes, and category-level shares, but no brand-level share data for either market. A share number here would have to be modelled, and a modelled share is indistinguishable from a measured one once it is in a slide.
